Palu Earthquake and Post Disaster Condition for Revitalization Dan Sustainable Development

 

Abstract

On September 28, 2018, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Palu, Sigi and Donggala. The earthquake generated a tsunami that struck Palu bay, including Taman Ria Beach which was a landmark of Palu City and a main commercial area of the city. The earthquake also imposed Liquefactions in some areas namely Balaroa, Petobo, and Jono Oge. Thousands of people lost their lives and most of the infrastructures in the affected areas were devastated. This research aims to provide a revitalization policy for the damages commercial area by analysing the level of damages caused by earthquake and tsunami disaster on the commercial area located at Palu Bay Taman Ria.

 

A preliminary study was carried out by employing a field survey to identify the post-disaster condition and its damage level. Secondary data is obtained from available post disaster data in some literatures, National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Bureau (BMKG). This study indicates that many casualties is caused by the lack of knowledge and awareness about the hazard of disaster. The Indonesian Government has issued a zone hazard map to identify the disaster-prone areas. This map is used as a guide to reconstruct and determine location of settlements, commercial areas, and others infrastructures and public facilities. Taman Ria, which is an area at the coast of Palu Bay appointed for an important commercial area, needs a specific tsunami wall for revitalizing the function of the area because the Palu Koro Fault is passing the area so that the tsunami wall may damage by earthquake before the tsunami hit the wall.
